ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

How do overuse conditions occur? Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:

  • acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc)
  • accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
  • not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia).

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.

What is an ART treatment like?

Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.

These treatment protocols - over 500 specific moves - are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.

Chiropractic manipulation is used to help restore normal function and motion to a joint that is fixated. This procedure typically involves gentle pressure or a shallow thrust to restore optimal motion. An adjustment may be accompanied by a "pop" or "cracking" noise, which is simply nitrogen gas being released.

Research continues to prove that chiropractic manipulation is safe, effective and have high levels of patient satisfaction. In 1994, the U.S. Agency for Health Care Policy deemed chiropractic manipulation as the gold standard for treating low back pain. Research continues to support the effectiveness of chiropractic care for low back pain, neck pain, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome and other common maladies.

Patients benefit from our manipulative therapy techniques, which are based on the most current research. We aim to provide our patients the most effective conservative care techniques available, and to achieve long-term results in fewer treatment sessions.

Unfortunately, visiting a doctor when you're feeling great is something new for most people. Yet, a growing number of people who want to be and do their best are visiting us on a regular basis. The wellness approach is to look for any disruptions in the body that may or may not be causing symptoms. If these disruptions are ignored long enough symptoms will ultimately manifest. Certain corrections and/or lifestyle modifications can restore healthy function. When your body is functioning properly, it tends to heal and maintain itself effectively. When this happens, true health is achieved.

True health is optimum physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Drinking plenty of clean water, eating nutritious foods, regular exercise and virtually every other healthy habit produces even bigger dividends when your body is functioning properly. It makes so much sense to build health rather than wait and treat symptoms. Be pro-active and call us to schedule a wellness consultation.
